I need to have a cheesesteak – Julie Chen
If you’re looking for a delicious, hearty meal that combines the best of a cheesesteak and a burger, look no further than this cheesesteak burger recipe. Made with rich ribeye steak, sweet sautéed onions, and your choice of cheese, this burger is sure to satisfy your cravings.
To start, you’ll need to partially freeze your ribeye steak for about 45 minutes. This will make it easier to slice the steak thinly, which is important for getting the right texture in your cheesesteak burger. Once the steak is partially frozen, remove it from the freezer and slice it into thin ribbons. Place the sliced steak into a bowl and set it aside.
Next, dice your sweet onion to your desired size. I like to cut the onion in half, make three horizontal slits, and then chop from above to get nicely sized onion squares. Heat your pan or skillet to medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of neutral cooking oil (such as avocado oil). Once the oil is heated, add your diced onions and sauté until nicely golden, about 10-15 minutes. Once fully cooked, remove the onions from the pan and set them aside on a plate.
While the pan is still on medium-high heat, add another 2 tablespoons of cooking oil to the pan and then add in your sliced steak. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir-fry the steak until it’s cooked through, which should take about 6-7 minutes. We’re aiming for a more traditional cheesesteak texture, so don’t worry too much about getting it at medium rare.
Once your steak is cooked through, turn off the heat and add all of your onions back into the pan, mixing thoroughly to combine with the steak. Take a toasted bun of your choice topped with cheese or cheese sauce (I recommend American, whiz, or provolone) and top it with your desired amount of steak and onions.
If you’re using cheese slices, place your completed cheesesteak burger in a warm oven for about 5 minutes to allow the cheese to melt. If you’re using cheese sauce, you can skip this step. Once your burger is heated and the cheese is melted, remove it from the oven and enjoy immediately.
This cheesesteak burger is perfect for a hearty dinner or lunch. It’s a great way to mix up your burger routine and add some extra flavor to your meal. Give it a try today and see for yourself how delicious it can be!
Cheesesteak Burger
The Cheesesteak-style Quesadilla is a simple and tasty recipe made with chuck roast, onions, cheese, and flour tortillas. Partially freeze the chuck roast before thinly slicing it for the best texture. Saute onions until semi-translucent for extra flavor. Use shredded provolone cheese for its melting properties and nutty taste. Use soft and pliable flour tortillas and toast the quesadillas in a skillet until crispy and golden brown. Serve with salsa, sour cream, and cilantro for added flavor. This dish is perfect for any time of day and easy to make.

Ingredients
Cheesesteak Burger
- 1 Ribeye steak
- 1 Sweet onion
- Cheese or cheese sauce of your choice (American, whiz, provolone are good choices)
- 4 Tbsp of neutral cooking oil (avocado is a good choice)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Partially freeze your steak, about 45 minutes. This will make it easier for slicing your steak as thinly as possible (freezing too long will make it much too difficult to slice the steak)
Take your steak out of the freezer and slice into thin ribbons. Place the sliced steak into a bowl and set aside.
Take your onion and dice it however you like it. I like to cut the onion in half, give the halves 3 horizontal slits, and then chopping from above. This gives me nicely sized onion squares.
Heat your pan or skillet to medium-high heat and then add your cooking oil (2 tbsp). Once heated, add your onions and sauté until nicely golden, about 10-15 minutes. Once fully cooked, empty your onions out to a plate.
While still on medium-high heat, add more cooking oil (2 tbsp) to your pan or skillet and then add in your sliced steak. Add salt and pepper. Stir-fry it until it’s cooked through. We’re going for a more traditional cheesesteak texture, so don’t fret about getting it at medium rare. This will take about 6-7 minutes of stir-frying.
Once your steak is cooked though, kill the heat and add in all of your onions, mixing thoroughly to combine with the steak.
Take a toasted bun of your choice topped with cheese or cheese sauce (I went with American here), and then top it with your desired amount of steak and onions.
Take your completed cheesesteaks and place in a warm oven for about 5 minutes, to allow your cheese to get nice and melted. If you are using cheese sauce, you can skip this step.
Remove your cheesesteak(s) from the oven and enjoy immediately.
